Enduro in Capoliveri: The 3 Must-Ride Trails of Monte Calamita

Say Capoliveri, and your mind goes straight to the red dust of Monte Calamita, that unique mix of iron, crystal-clear sea, and trails that feel like they were drawn by a cycling god with a soft spot for gravity.

The Capoliveri Bike Park is a paradise for Cross Country, but anyone chasing the thrill of Enduro knows that hidden here are lines that can challenge even the most seasoned riders. Today we dive into the heart of the bike park and break down the three trails that, in our view at Elba Freeride, capture the essence of Capoliveri riding.

1. Polveriera: The Flow You Don’t Expect

The Polveriera is one of the area’s most iconic tracks. Don’t be fooled by the “explosive” name: the key here is rhythm.

The character: It’s a fast, guided trail that winds through low vegetation. Perfect for those who love to let off the brakes and pump through the dips.

Why ride it: It offers an interesting mix of surfaces, alternating more compact stretches with sections where the classic “red dust” makes grip a fun gamble. It’s the ideal trail to warm up the legs and get a feel for Calamita’s terrain.

2. Casermacce DH: History and Technique

Here the tune changes. The Casermacce DH is a piece of Elba downhill history, perfectly reworked for modern enduro bikes.

The character: Meaner, steeper, and definitely more technical. The gradients ramp up and the ground gets rougher, with exposed rocks and sections where line choice makes the difference between a smooth run and an unplanned stop in the bushes.

Why ride it: If you’re looking for “vertical” and want to test your suspension (and your nerve), this is the right place. The views in some spots are breathtaking, but don’t get too distracted: the trail demands full focus.

3. Ginevro DH: In the Heart of the Mine

We close the podium with the Ginevro DH, a trail where calling it “scenic” is an understatement. You drop toward the underground mine area, in an almost lunar setting.

The character: It’s a technical trail that requires solid bike control. Marked by often loose ground and sections on bare rock, Ginevro takes you straight toward the blue sea with a sequence of switchbacks and rhythmic sections.

Why ride it: It’s the essence of Capoliveri. Pedaling (and descending) among the remains of old mining structures, with the contrast between iron-rich earth and turquoise water, is an experience every biker should have at least once in a lifetime.

Tips from the Elba Freeride Team

Monte Calamita is stunning, but it can be ruthless. In summer temperatures rise and shade is scarce: always bring plenty of water and don’t underestimate the sketchy grip of the dust in the driest periods.

Whether you’re a local or a tourist on your first time on the island, these three trails will leave you with a grin on your face and the urge to head back up right away for another lap.
